REASON: 1.4 (b),(c),(d)
1. (S/NF) CDA convened an EAC meeting on July 21 to discuss
recent threat reporting (reftel) and the attack on the U.S.
Consulate in Istanbul. The following personnel attended: CDA,
CONS, DAO, MGT, PAO, GRPO, RSO. The EAC considered recent
threat reporting and the shooting attack in Istanbul, and their
possible impact on Libya. GRPO contacts reported no additional
specific threat information concerning U.S. or any other western
interests in Libya beyond the non-specific information in
reftel. The EAC concluded that Post's current security posture
was appropriate and that it would reconvene as new information
became available.
2. (S/NF) Local police and intelligence sources are aware of
Post's ongoing concerns regarding threats to U.S. and western
interests in Libya and in the region.
