Assistant for Arms Control, Disarmament, and Nonproliferation
Taijiro Kimura August 20. Kimura said Japan shared the
United States' view that Syria was an unacceptable candidate
for the IAEA BOG because of Syria's cooperation with North
Korea. He said he agreed Afghanistan would be more suitable
than Syria, but thought the GOJ would consider Kazakhistan an
ideal candidate because of Japan's relationship with that
country on nuclear fuel enrichment. He said he would share
the United States' concern with the Japanese IAEA delegation
in Vienna.
