(SBU) Econoff delivered reftel demarche November 7 on the EU
proposed Third Maritime Safety regulation to Saskia de Lang,
MFA Transport Advisor and Head of Transport and OECD
Division, and to Edwin van der Schaft, Sea Transport Adviser
within the Ministry of Transport. De Lang responded November
17 that the Dutch government would defer to the EU position.
De Lang stated that the U.S. demarche would likely be
discussed within the EU Working Group on Sea Transport with
the aim of providing the United States with a harmonized
position on the issue.
