1. (U) EconOff delivered reftel demarche August 7 to Dr. Arie
Kattenberg, head of the Dutch delegation to the
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) plenary.
Kattenberg, a scientist with the Royal Netherlands
Meteorological Institute, said that the Dutch were still
deliberating internally on their voting intentions for the
upcoming IPCC 29th plenary session. He welcomed the
information about the U.S. nomination of Dr. Field to serve
as Co-chair of Working Group II, but could not give a "yes or
no" answer regarding Dutch support. EconOff also shared
reftel points with Ronald Flipphi at the Dutch Ministry of
Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment. Another key
member of the Dutch delegation, Flipphi recommends voting
positions at the IPCC.
