1. As requested reftel, Econoff contacted Femke Hoogeveen,
Senior Policy Advisor for Energy, Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, on March 19 regarding a Dutch government WIREC
pledge to accelerate the uptake of renewable energy. The
Dutch head of delegation to WIREC, Minister for European
Affairs Frans Timmermans, did make a pledge at WIREC but it
had not been recorded on the Renewable Energy Policy Network
(REN21) website. Hoogeveen contacted the Dutch embassy in
Washington, which worked directly with REN 21 to formally
register the Dutch government pledge. As of March 25, the
pledge now appears on the REN21 website.

2. The Dutch government has pledged to:
-- reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent in 2020,
-- increase the share of renewable energy to 20 percent in
2020,
-- increase the share of (sustainably produced) biofuels,
-- increase energy efficiency by 2 percent per year,
-- stimulate innovation in sustainable energy technologies,
and
-- the Dutch government aims to buy 100 percent sustainable
products by 2010.
