SOMALIA

REF: A. 07 STOCKHOLM 847

B. 07 STATE 93047

C. 07 STOCKHOLM 819

D. 07 STATE 85379

Classified By: Polcouns Casey Christensen for reasons 1.4 (b) and (d).

(S) Polcouns was called in to the MFA April 17 by Americas
Director Hakan Malmqvist and Consular and Civil Law Deputy
Director Helmer Broberg regarding the case of Swedish citizen
Fethi Hamid Darir, who may have been among a group of
individuals killed in Somalia June 1, 2007, as the result of
a counterterrorism operation conducted by the authorities in
Puntland, and about whom we have informed Sweden (reftels).
Sweden requests U.S. help in obtaining Fethi's passport,
which was apparently recovered after the operation.
According to Malmqvist and Broberg, Sweden has approached the
U.S. Embassy in Nairobi and was informed it had no
information regarding the passport, and now requests
assistance from Washington in obtaining the passport. Please
advise.
