1. As of 0800, September 15, 2008, the Executive
Secretary has directed the Bureau of European and
Eurasian Affairs (EUR) to assume leadership of the
Georgia Coordinating Group (GCG) in coordinating and
implementing the USG's strategy for the crisis,
including both diplomatic efforts and assistance
programs for Georgia's recovery. A unit from S/CRS
temporarily attached to EUR will provide principal
support in coordinating activities in both areas.
2. Please continue to direct action requests and
reporting on the Georgia crisis, including on both
diplomacy and assistance issues, to the GCG in EUR at
(GCG@state.sgov.gov, GCG@state.gov); or by calling EUR's
Office of Caucasus Affairs and Regional Conflict
(EUR/CARC) at 202-647-7644.
3. Public inquiries dealing with American Citizen
Services issues may be referred to the Office of
Overseas Citizens Services at 1-888-407-4747, or from
overseas at 1-202-501-4444.
4. Inquiries from the press should either be handled by
post's public affairs officers or referred to the Press
Office at 1-202-647-2492.
5. We remain interested in any suggestions that posts
involved in the Georgia Task Force or Coordinating Group
may have for improving the operation of future Task
Forces or Monitoring Groups. Posts may contact the
Operation Center's Office of Crisis Management Support
(SES-O/CMS) to share any lessons learned.
6. Minimize considered.
