SUBJECT: OSCE PERMANENT COUNCIL: STATEMENT ON ARREST OF
WAR CRIMES FUGITIVE
1. (U) Post is authorized to present the following statement
at the June 19th Permanent Council meeting in Vienna.
Begin text:
Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
The United States welcomes the news of the recent arrest in
Serbia of war crimes fugitive Stojan Zupljanin, who was
indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the
Former Yugoslavia for torture, murder, and other crimes
committed in 1992 in Bosnia-Herzegovina. This is an important
step toward helping the region move beyond its troubled past.
None of us can rest and all must cooperate fully with the
Hague Tribunal until all remaining fugitives, including
General Ratko Mladic and Bosnian Serb wartime political
leader Radovan Karadzic, are brought to justice.
Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
End Text.
