1. Reftel reports a diplomatic note from the Government of
Uganda dated May 23, 2008 requesting U.S. support for
Uganda's candidacy for non-permanent membership on the UN
Security Council for the 2009-2010 term. Post is requested
to deliver the diplomatic note in para 2 below.

Complimentary opening,
...and has the honor of replying to your diplomatic note of
May 23, 2008 regarding Uganda's candidacy for a non-permanent
seat on the United Nations Security Council for the term
2009-2010.
The United States appreciates Uganda's firm dedication to the
strengthening of multilateral dialogue and international
cooperation, as well as the protection of international peace
and security.
The United States is pleased that Uganda wishes to
participate actively in the United Nations as a member of the
Security Council and welcomes the opportunity to consider
Uganda's candidacy. As a matter of long-standing practice,
the United States does not disclose its voting intentions in
UN elections either before or after the balloting.
