1. The Department requests that USUN draw on the following
points during the UN Security Council's discussion of the UN
Mission in Nepal's (UNMIN) report on the elections in Nepal,
scheduled for April 21.

2. Begin Points:

-- The United States congratulates Nepal on the successful
conclusion of the April 11 elections.

-- We thank SRSG Martin and the staff of UNMIN for their work
in carrying out UNMIN's mandate in supporting the electoral
process and verifying the status of combatants in the
cantonments.

-- We commend the Nepalese people and for their respect for
democratic norms in the conduct of the elections.

-- We urge all parties to continue to refrain from violence
and to exercise patience in the post electoral period, as the
constitutional assembly prepares to be seated.

-- We look forward to the formation of an assembly that
reflects the will of the Nepalese people, ready to begin the
important work of framing a constitution that addresses their
needs.

-- With these elections concluded, the U.S. looks forward to
consulting with our Council colleagues, the government of
Nepal and other regional partners regarding the future of
UNMIN.

End Points.
