1. (U) This is an action request. Embassy Tokyo, please
see paragraph 2.


2. (S) Background and Action Request: In September 2008,
we advised the GOJ that in July 2008, North Korea's primary
weapons trading firm, Korea Mining Development Corporation
(KOMID),was working with the Chinese company New East
International Trading Ltd. to procure three Japanese-origin
cylindrical grinding machines on behalf of an end-user in
Burma (Ref A). The U.S. provided this information to
support Japan's export control efforts. Japanese officials
requested any additional information we had on DPRK/Burma
collaboration or the end-user in this transaction (Ref B).
We now want to advise Tokyo that we have no further
information to share on this case at this time.
