COMMITTEE
REF: SECSTATE 93981
Classified By: POLOFF BOSWORTH FOR REASONS 1.4 (b) AND (d).
(C) Poloff discussed reftel points with Svetlana Geleva, MFA
Director for Multilateral Affairs, on 12 September. Geleva
indicated that Macedonia will support the planned resolutions
in the Third Committee on Iran, Burma, and DPRK. She
concurred that a resolution on Belarus is not needed at this
time. Geleva said that Macedonia would review and consider
support for a possible resolution on Zimbabwe, but must do so
in light of the latest developments and potential progress
toward resolution of the political crisis there. She
indicated that Macedonia concurs that no-action motions are a
serious problem and will take a principled stand against
them. Finally, Geleva stated that Macedonia will vote
against any resolution on "defamation of religions."
