SUBJECT: MACEDONIA INPUT FOR NEW ENERGY REPORT

This cable responds to reftel request for information on the
Department's energy-related activities at post. The information
below corresponds to the format requested in reftel.

-- A. The Political and Economic Section of the Embassy handles the
Department's energy related matters at post. There are a total of
five officers, one half-time OMS, and five FSNs in the section.

-- B. Percentage of time devoted to energy matters: one pol/econ
counselor: 2.5 percent; one economic officer 5 percent; one FSN: 20
percent.

-- C. The Political and Economic Counselor provides overall
guidance on the section's energy related activities, meets with U.S.
energy company representatives and GOM officials on energy-related
matters as appropriate, and reviews post's energy related reporting.
The Economic/Commercial officer and the Commercial Specialist FSN
monitor activities in Macedonia's energy sector, advocate on behalf
of U.S. energy companies interested in Macedonia, meet with
representatives of energy companies operating in Macedonia and GOM
energy officials, and draft reporting on energy developments in
Macedonia.

-- D. There are no State Department funds budgeted for
energy-related activities in Macedonia. Post estimates (based on
the percent of time devoted to energy issues in part A above) that
in FY 2007 the following amount was spent on salary costs associated
with energy activities: $16,200
