SUBJECT: ROKG SATISFIED WITH IAEA IRAN EXPORT DENIAL
SHARING MECHANISM

REF: SECSTATE 11499

Classified By: POL M/C Joseph Y. Yun, Reasons 1.4 (b,d).

(C) On February 5, Poloff conveyed reftel demarche and letter
to Kim Jim-im, Deputy Director, Disarmament and
Nonproliferation Division, Republic of Korea Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and Trade. Kim said the ROKG supports and
will continue to share nuclear-related export denial
information on Iran with the IAEA Secretariat as appropriate.
He said he would convey the appreciation expressed in
Heinonen's letter to UNVIE to the appropriate ROKG agencies.
In a follow-up discussion on February 13, Kim reported that
the ROKG is satisfied with the current export denial
information-sharing mechanism, submitting relevant export
denial information on Iran directly to the IAEA. Regarding
possible IAEA requests for additional information on cases
submitted in November 2007, Kim advised the IAEA contact the
ROKG directly through the ROK Mission in Vienna.
