Econ Counselor delivered reftel points May 12 to Silvia
Nasser, Intellectual Property Rights Negotiator at the
Ministry of Economy (MINEC). Nasser shared our concerns
regarding the current WIPO Director General (DG) and the need
for new, responsible leadership. She said she would relay
our position to their Geneva representatives and thought they
would be inclined to support a Latin American for DG. She
too thought that the Mexican candidate was well-qualified,
but a decision would be made after consulting with the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and MINEC officials in San
Salvador and Geneva.
