1. (C) PolEconOff delivered reftel points May 6 to Iveta
Skrastina of the Asia and Oceania Division at the MFA.
Noting that the GOL shares U.S. concerns about the Burmese
regime's suppression of democracy, Skrastina stated that the
GOL will continue to support the EU common policy on Burma.
She added and that in general the GOL supports the U.S.
policy of stepped up sanctions.
2. (C) Regarding the humanitarian disaster in the wake of
Cyclone Nargis, Skrastina stated the MFA officials would meet
on May 6 to discuss the situation. However, she did not
anticipate any specific assistance being offered by Latvia,
as the country has no diplomatic relations with Burma.
