1. (C) Embassy officials raised USG concerns about the UN
Human Rights Council special session on Gaza with the Czech
MFA Human Rights and Transition Policy office on the morning
of January 24. This afternoon Czech Deputy Director of Human
Rights and Transition Policy, Martin Bocek, informed Emboffs
that while the GOCR supported our position against the
unbalanced anti-Israeli resolution, the EU came to a
consensus position to abstain. According to Bocek, the UK,
the Netherlands and the Czech Republic were the three
countries pressing hard within the EU for a vote against the
resolution, while France was notably at the opposite end of
the spectrum.
2. (U) Bocek also noted that when the vote took place in
Geneva today, only Canada voted against the resolution.
