1. (SBU) On September 5, Ambassador Cabrera took advantage of
a meeting with Mauritian Foreign Secretary Anund Neewoor to
raise ref A and other Department provided points on Georgia.
Neewoor responded that the GOM official position would be to
"support the territorial integrity of Georgia." He added
that this policy is in line with their policy on the Chagos
Archipelago, and the GOM's own desire "of having their
territory returned to them" by the U.K.
2. (C) Comment: As noted in ref B, Mauritius is unlikely to
act alone on Georgia, but could act as part of a wider group,
such as the African Union. Linking Chagos to their position
on Georgia is not a surprise -- the GOM has been making such
linkages regularly as the opportunity arises. End Comment.
