1. (C) On June 30, 2008 the U.S. Consulate Peshawar convened its
Emergency Action Committee (EAC) to review the current security
environment in Peshawar and Post's ability to proceed with it's
planned official July 4th event. Present for the EAC was PO,
RSO, RAO, USAID, MGT, ODRP, PAO, GSO, DEA and CON.
2. (C) The EAC was presented with information that the RSO
received during a meeting with the Chief Capital Police Officer
(CCPO),Dr. Salman. The CCPO reported that he would support the
event, although with the ongoing operations in the Bara area of
the Khyber Agency, supporting this event would force him to
re-deploy police assets from the current ongoing operations.
The EAC determined the best course of action under these
circumstances was to postpone Post's official July 4th event to
an indefinite date.
