SUBJECT: INFORMATION TO CRITERIA APPLIED TO RECOGNIZING PRIVILEGES

1. The Government of Suriname (GOS) fully acknowledges its
responsibilities under article 37(1) of Vienna Convention on
Diplomatic Relations; however we have noted several inconsistencies
in the GOS's practices for issuance of diplomatic identity cards for
Embassy diplomatic, administrative, and technical staff and family
members.
2. The DCM and Consular Officer met with MFA Chief of Protocol and
Head of the Privileges and Immunities Section of the MFA on
Thursday, February 21, 2008 to request clarity on status of family
members. Management sent a diplomatic note also requesting
clarification on issues mentioned in Reftel. Post is awaiting a
more definitive response from the Government of Suriname regarding
these issues.
