1. Per reftel, PolOff on June 11 demarched Cypriot MFA
Middle East Desk Officer Dionysus Dionysiou regarding GOC
attendance and financial support for the June 24 Conference
in Support of Palestinian Civil Police and the Rule of Law in
Berlin. Dionysiou replied that Cyprus would attend the
event, represented by its resident ambassador in Germany.
2. At the similarly-themed Paris Conference in December
2007, Cyprus pledged 2 million dollars, earmarking most for
institutional capacity-building programs for the Palestinian
security sector (recently, the MFA and Cypriot police
conducted a month-long training course for female Palestinian
police officers.) Since this support tracks closely with
priorities outlined by the organizers of the forthcoming
Berlin Conference, Dionysou did not expect Cyprus to make
additional financial commitments in Germany.
