MTCR PLENARY

Per reftel, on January 15 PolOff demarched First Secretary
Panayiotis Papadopoulos, Department of Multilateral Affairs,
Cypriot MFA regarding the results of the recent Athens
Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) Plenary.
Papadopoulos commented that Cyprus supports the existence and
activities of the MTCR, and wishes to become a full member.
He suspects that Turkey will continue to block its candidacy,
however. Regardless of its MTCR status, Cyprus will continue
to be alert for signs of missle and missle technology
proliferation, employing its customs service, police and
military forces in the fight.
