FOR IRAQI REFUGEES
REF: SECSTATE 30028
Per reftel, PolOff on March 28 demarched MFA attache Dionysis
Dionysiou regarding the plight of Iraqi refugees. Dionysiou
acknowledged the deteriorating situation and agreed that
further assistance from the international community was
vital. Cyprus already had donated 20,000 USD to UNHCR, he
noted. Further, the government had some discretionary
funding for humanitarian needs. Dionysiou was non-commital,
however, when pressed for a follow-up pledge to benefit Iraqi
refugees.
