1. (C) Pol-Econ Chief delivered reftel demarche on February
6 to Humeid al-Ma'ani, Office Director for the Secretary
General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ma'ani responded
that the government of Oman appreciated the "very difficult"
situation in Lebanon and would seriously consider our
requests for support. (Note: The note verbale from the
Secretary was also sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on

2. (C) The Ambassador plans to see Minister Responsible for
Foreign Affairs Yusef bin Alawi on February 9 to encourage
Omani support for Lebanon per reftel. Bin Alawi's response
will be reported septel.
