On November 5, 2008, Post received a letter from the
President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, Dr. Tabare
Vazquez to the Honorable Barack Obama, The President-
elect of the United States of America. Unofficial
translation follows:
Dear friend:
On behalf of the Uruguayan people and Government, I
congratulate you for your recent election as the next
President of the United States of America.
Through you, I would also like to congratulate your
voters, who built the electoral victory with conviction,
hope and perseverance. I also extend my congratulations
to the United States citizens, whose democratic values
have enabled a historical change for their country and
for the world.
A great challenge awaits you both in the domestic and the
international levels. However, knowing the values and
principles that inspire you and the commitments you have
made, I trust they will have a good outcome.
I also hope that during your Presidency the friendship,
diplomatic relations, trade, scientific cooperation and
cultural dialogue between the United States and Uruguay
will be further strengthened.
You may count on us for this task Q as well as for all
those tasks that contribute to peace, freedom, democracy,
justice and equal opportunities for the well being of
humans and their individual dignity.
Looking forward to meeting you personally in the near
