1. Embassy conveyed reftel demarche and informed Spain that
the U.S. is finalizing a significant USG pledge and that we
expect the U.S. Charge d'Affaires to Lebanon will represent
our government at the conference. Spanish MFA Deputy
Director General for the Middle East Alberto Ucelay said that
Spain had made a strong commitment to the Sinora government
and would send a representative to the June 23 conference as
well. At this time, Spain is finalizing its pledge for the
reconstruction of the Nahr al-Barid Refugee Camp.
