On October 3, POL/ECON Off delivered reftel points to Gracas
Freitas, Department of Infectious Disease at the Portuguese
Directorate General of Health, encouraging high-level
attendance at Egypt's upcoming Ministerial Conference on
Avian and Pandemic Influenza. Reftel points were also
delivered to Goncalo Silvestre, International Political
Organizations Department at the Portuguese Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, and Carlos Agrela Pinheiro, Director General
for Veterinary in the Ministry of Agriculture. No
substantive comments or commitments were offered regarding
high-level attendance, however Portugal has been well
represented in the past at such conferences and is generally
engaged on an international level with the issue of avian and
pandemic influenza.
