(S) Emboff delivered reftel demarche Dec. 15 to Malawi
Defense Force (MDF) Chief of Staff Major General Evaristo
Kadzeya. Kadzeya was aware of the U.N. Security Council
resolutions concerning military cooperation with Iran and
maintained that Malawi was in compliance with them. Kadzeya
confirmed that the Commander of the MDF approved all
munitions and defense article purchases as well as other
defense cooperation. He said he would alert the Commander to
U.S. concerns.
