(C) Ambassador delivered reftel talking points to Foreign
Minister Nyamwisi Mbusa May 24 during a meeting between
Mbusa, Ambassador, and DCM Brock. Mbusa signaled agreement
with points and acknowledged that the DRC concurs with the
U.S. assessment of the situation in Zimbabwe. Although the
DRC agrees with our assessment, Mbusa intimated, it is less
influential than Zambia, South Africa, and Angola and thus
not as actively engaged as those countries. Mbusa agreed to
work closely with other SADC members to promote safe and fair
elections in Zimbabwe.
