SUBJECT: PAKISTAN TO SUPPORT U.S. UNGA COMPLIANCE
RESOLUTION PROVIDED AMENDMENTS ARE ACCEPTED
REF: A. ISLAMABAD 03221
B. SECSTATE 101817
On October 9, Poloff spoke with Kamran Akhtar, Director of
Disarmament at the MFA, in a follow-up conversation to the
communication provided in Ref A. At this time, Akhtar noted
that Pakistan supported the resolution when it was last
proposed. Additionally, Pakistan had no problem with this
current resolution provided that some "minor changes" in the
draft are taken on board at the time of voting. Poloff asked
specifically about the suggested changes, and Akhtar
responded that the Pakistan UN delegation will be responsible
for reporting those suggested changes.
