SUBJECT: PAKISTAN TO REMAIN NEUTRAL ON ALL KOSOVO ISSUES
REF: SECSTATE 91908
Classified By: Political Counselor, E. Candace Putnam for reasons 1.4 (
b),(d).
(C) On August 29, Poloff delivered reftel points to Ayesha
Farhat, Assistant Director for the United Nations Division at
the MFA, concerning the Kosovo International Court of Justice
(ICJ) resolution at UNGA. Farhat noted that Pakistan has yet
to recognize Kosovo as an independent entity and would remain
"neutral" on the issue until otherwise directed by the
Organization of Islamic Council (OIC). She explained to
Poloff that this issue was raised within the OIC at the
recently held Dakar Summit and assumed that the issue would
be raised again at the OIC Ministerial Meeting to be held in
New York during the upcoming UNGA session. However, she
reiterated that Pakistan would not take a stance on the issue
until (when/if) the OIC took a stance on the issue.
