1. Per reftel, post contacted local human rights NGOs and
civil society organizations to inform them of the UN Human
Rights Council's upcoming Universal Periodic Review of
Guatemala's human rights record (May 5-16) and to encourage
their participation in the process.


2. The following organizations, which already submitted a
collective report on the human rights situation in Guatemala
to the UN Human Rights Council, confirmed that they were
aware of the upcoming review and would participate in the
process: University of San Carlos, Rafael Landivar
University, Episcopal Conference of Guatemala, Jewish
Community of Guatemala, Confederation of Cooperatives of
Guatemala, General Union of Workers of Guatemala, General
Center of Workers of Guatemala, Maya Forum, Politico-Civic
Convergence of Women, National Association of
Non-Governmental Organizations Concerning Natural Resources
and the Environment/World Union for Nature, Association of
Investigation and Social Research, Myrna Mack Foundation,
Anguished Mothers, Association of Families and Friends
Against Delinquency and Kidnapping, and Mutual Support Group.
