1. SUMMARY: The U.S. on July 15 gave Grenada's National Disaster
Management Agency (NADMA) training materials on shelter
management and initial damage assessment. The material is
intended to strengthen Grenada's disaster preparedness, in
particular to increase the number of trainers. Most of
Grenada's television and radio media attended the event. END
SUMMARY


2. On July 15, Charge d'Affaires Karen Jo McIsaac provided to
NADMA Coordinator Sylvan McIntyre 100 copies each of USAID
Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) training
booklets/pamphlets, valued at around USD3400.

The booklets were:

Shelters and Shelter Management, Instructor Guide
Shelters and Shelter Management, Reference Guide
Shelters and Shelter Management, Participant Workbook
Initial Damage Assessment, Instructor Guide
Initial Damage Assessment, Participant Workbook
Field Reference Guide: Initial Damage Assessment


3. USAID/OFDA's Disaster Risk Management Specialist, Clive E.
Lorde explained that the U.S. goal in providing the training
materials was to ensure that as many people as possible in the
region receive disaster response training. Several Grenadians
who are now qualified trainers also attended and described their
role in increasing disaster preparedness awareness in Grenada
and region-wide.
