1. According to David Brennan, Department of Justice,
Equality and Law Reform, who deals with the Criminal Justice
(Mutual Assistance) Bill, the Bill is scheduled for the
Report Stage (the third of four stages) in the Dail (lower
House of Parliament) on March 12. If this schedule holds,
the Bill should be enacted early in the next session of the
Dail, which starts in early April, according to Brennan.
2. The provisions to give effect to extradition were
contained in the European Arrest Warrant Act, 2003. Brennan
said that once the Criminal Justice (Mutual Assistance) Bill
is enacted, the Government of Ireland will be in a position
to ratify both the extradition and mutual legal assistance
agreements, as well as the EU Council Decision of June 6,
2003 on extradition and mutual assistance.
