SUBJECT: BANGLADESH NON COMMITTAL ON UN RESOLUTION
STRESSING COMPLIANCE WITH NON-PROLIFERATION, ARMS
LIMITATION AND DISARMAMENT AGREEMENTS
REF: 123493
(U) On Sunday November 23, PolOff met with Sakib Sadakat,
Assistant Secretary UN and Human Rights Wing at the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, to convey reftel points. We noted the
importance of compliance with non-proliferation, arms
limitation and disarmament agreements in order to promote
international peace, stability and security. The Assistant
Secretary stated that the Government of Bangladesh (GOB)
broadly supports compliance with such agreements but that a
decision on the final vote has not yet been made and that the
matter is still under consideration. He added that it would
ultimately be taken up by the Foreign Secretary or Foreign
Advisor. Post will continue to follow up with the GOB to
encourage their support on this resolution.
