(C) As requested reftel, the Ambassador delivered the subject
demarche to Acting Foreign Minister (Justice Minister) Cassa
on Sunday morning, February 24, 2008. Minister Cassa
acknowledged and welcomed the USG points, stating that on
principle Benin supported freedom of speech and civil
liberties. He noted that the President was out of town but
would get the message to the President's Special Advisor for
Diplomatic Affairs Ambassador Diallo. Post also will
follow-up with the MFA Acting Director for the Americas.
