(SBU) Danish MFA Deputy Head of Department for Latin America
Lars Bredel December 18 shares U.S. concerns over Nicaraguan
elections and is following the situation closely. He stated
that Denmark has clearly critized the government and is
reviewing reductions in their aid assistance to the country.
They do not, however, have any plans to completely suspend
assistance. Denmark will continue to look at ways to provide
assistance in rural areas without going through GON channels.
Bredel also emphasized that Denmark plays an active role in
encouraging EU partners to speak with a common voice when
criticizing the GON. He stated that Denmark follows closely
the U.S. action on assistance reduction and would welcome
news on any changes to our AID program.
