SUBJECT: REPORT OF CONAKRY EMERGENCY ACTION COMMITTEE
1. (SBU) Embassy Conakry's Emergency Action Committee (EAC) met
January 18 to discuss the possibility of civil unrest during and
after the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations soccer game between Guinea
and Ghana scheduled for Sunday, January 20.
2. (SBU) The EAC reviewed the likelihood of disturbances regardless
of the outcome of the match. The committee agreed that a consular
warden message be broadcast urging American citizens to avoid
driving in Conakry during and following the game and to exercise
caution.
3. (SBU) ARSO advised that a radio update would issued Sunday one
hour before the game and during the game. ARSO also noted that
personnel should expect a large police presence throughout Conakry
on Sunday.
