1. (SBU) The Government of Guinea plans to send a delegation
of approximately 20 members to the Africa Union Summit in
Egypt scheduled to begin June 30. Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed
Tidiane Souare will lead the delegation. A contact at the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) anticipates that several
ministers will accompany the PM, but the composition of the
delegation has not yet been finalized. The PM plans to
depart Guinea for Egypt on June 28, but the MFA does not yet
have the PM's onward travel plans from Egypt.
2. (SBU) The point of contact for Guinea's delegation is the
Guinean Embassy in Cairo. The MFA did not provide a specific
contact name, but provided a cell phone contact number for
the Guinean Ambassador to Egypt (201-1233-5557) as well as
the main trunk line for the Embassy (202-2735-8109).
3. (SBU) COMMENT. PM Souare was sworn into office at the end
of May and has just announced a restructuring of the
government and the appointment of his cabinet. If feasible,
a meeting on the fringes between the new PM and A/S Jendayi
Frazer would be useful, first as an initial courtesy call,
and second to reinforce our core messages regarding
democracy, elections, good governance, and continued progress
towards economic reforms. END COMMENT.
