SUBJECT: EAC DISCUSSES SECURITY POSTURE FOR JULY 4TH EVENT

REF: STATE 58161

1. As per reftel, on June 2, 2008, the Conakry Emergency
Action Committee convened to review Post's security posture
in preparation for July 4th events. Currently there is no
plan to hold an official Independence Day event in Conakry.
The Embassy hosted an official National Day in February since
heavy seasonal rains tend to deluge Conakry in July. An
unofficial, American's only, event may be held at the
Ambassador's residence. The AMB, DCM, RSO, MGT, POL, DAO,
USAID, PC, and RAO were in attendance. The EAC agreed that
the Embassy security posture is commensurate with the current
threat environment. The RSO briefed the EAC that additional
local guard force personnel will be available to be deployed
during any large unofficial celebration for July 4th to
provide additional security.
