1. (SBU) Post received the following diplomatic note with
reference number (F2) EA-US/B/2008/2 informing us of Dr.
Mohamed Latheef's recall from his post as Non-resident
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and seeking
agrement for his designated successor, Mr. Mohamed Hussain
Maniku as Maldives prospective resident Ambassador in
Washington. The note was accompanied by Maniku's CV
(E-mailed to SCA/INS).


2. (SBU) The diplomatic note reads as follows:

Reference (F2) EA-US/B/2008/2

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives
presents its compliments to the Embassy of the United States
of America to the Republic of Maldives and has the honour to
refer to the Ministry's Note no. (F2) EA-US/B/2007/37 dated
21 November 2007, informing Dr. Mohamed Latheef's recall from
his post as Non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary.

The Ministry is pleased to inform the Embassy that the
Government of Maldives have decided to nominate Mr. Mohamed
Hussain Maniku as the Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Maldives to the United
States of America. The Curriculum Vitae of Mr. Mohamed
Hussain Maniku is attached herewith for the Embassy's perusal.

The Ministry wishes to seek the agreement of the Government
of the United States of America for the appointment of Mr.
Mohamed Hussain Maniku as the Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Maldives to the United
States of America.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives
avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Embassy of
the United States of America to the Republic of Maldives the
assurances of its highest consideration.


3. (SBU) Revised biography of Maniku forwarded separately
via classified e-mail to SCA/INS.
