1. According to figures from the Moldovan Labor Inspection Unit
(LIU),collected by ILO in Chisinau, no cases of forced labor,
including forced child labor, were discovered in Moldova in 2006 or

2007. However, of 371 cases of child labor investigated in 2007, 73
involved no violations, and 298 involved hazardous conditions; of
those 298, 15 were cited as abusive, and involved children working
in following areas of goods production:

--mushroom growing (2);

--assembling boxes for agricultural goods (3); and

--fish smoking (10).

2. The 283 cases cited as non-abusive included cases of children
working without medical checks; children working evening, late, or
extended hours; and children under 16 working without signed
parental consent. Only 56 of these non-abusive cases were
identified as labor occurring in the production of goods: 30
assembling toys, 21 working in the clothing industry, and 5 putting
together electrical parts for automobiles. The rest (227) were
identified as working in cinemas (3),car washes (3) and carpentry
(1),and in the undifferentiated categories of industry (14),trade
(4),transportation (1),agriculture (195),and miscellaneous (6).
No figures were given matching types of violations to the particular
categories of work. At post's request, ILO/IPED will request that
the LIU cross-categorize its data more carefully.
