to Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) South and
West Asia Branch Assistant Secretary Lachlan Strahan on
September 19. Dr. Strahan thanked us for the invitation and
said that Foreign Minister Stephen Smith intends to attend
the meeting (according to Strahan, Smith has characterized
Australia's participation is "imperative") and has requested
the Embassy in Washington and the Australian Mission in New
York to coordinate with the Department and USUN respectively.
