DISCUSSION GROUP RECOMMENDATIONS
REF: STATE 6393
1. We presented reftel points to Gerry McGuire, Acting
Assistant Secretary for Arms Control and
Counter-Proliferation, Department of Foreign Affairs and
Trade, on January 23. McGuire conveyed GOA appreciation for
the U.S. response, including support for the name change,
draft "awareness raising" guidelines and convening a meeting
of the discussion group before or on the margins of the 2008
plenary.
2. McGuire said he is planning to schedule a meeting of the
oligonucleotide discussion group on Monday afternoon, April
14, before the April 15 AG plenary so as to be able to report
on the discussion group's findings. He noted the timing was
also driven by the fact that Australia's expert on the
subject needs to depart early for the back-to-back CWC
meeting.
