MINISTERIAL ON FIJI
1. (SBU) A representative from the Department of Foreign
Affairs and Trade Pacific Regional Section confirmed
Australia is hopeful of a results-oriented outcome to the
March 26 Pacific Island Forum Ministerial on Fiji. A meeting
of Australian and New Zealand Foreign Ministers preceded the
FFAM and the Australians' perspective will be covered in
septel when DFAT New Zealand Section representatives return
from Auckland. DFAT suggested the meeting will focus on aid
programs among other topics.
2. (SBU) The only comment given regarding the UN
Consultative Group was that Australia will support it as long
as it "does not get in the way" of other established efforts
in the region.
