1. (C) Charge delivered the requested points to Wilm
Geurts of the MFA's UN Directorate on the Security Council.
Geurts said that Belgium is very supportive and fully
committed. The challenge is to get 1735 fully implemented by
member states.
2. (C) Belgium is satisfied with UNSCR 1735 although the
GOB would have like it to be stronger on procedures. The
procedures should be fair and clear in order to have
credibility with all member states. In this regard, Belgium
appreciated the changes that had been made in the resolution
last week. Belgium welcomes U.S. flexibility and has offered
to co-sponsor the resolution. However, the GOB will continue
to push for fair and clear procedures in the future.
3. (C) Belgium cannot commit now to making public
statements on the resolution.
