Belgium's UNSC cell welcomed the USG draft text to terminate
the UN Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE) mission on the
Eritrea-Ethiopia border. The diplomats noted that it will
help them as they conduct negotiations on a final text.
Belgium itself does not yet have a position on the matter.
It seems unlikely that the Security Council will adopt a
presidential statement (PSRT) and, even though UNMEE's
mandate was at the request of the two countries concerned,
there remains the question of how to implement peace.
