1. (U) Poloff conveyed the reftel message on October 24 to
Andreas Friedrich, Head of the Arms Control and Disarmament
Section of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs
(EDA),and to Erwin Bollinger, Head of the Export Controls
and Sanctions Policy Division at the Swiss State Secretariat
for Economic Affairs (SECO).

2. (C) On October 28, Friedrich informed poloff that
Friedrich had checked with the relevant Swiss government
departments and offices and determined that the Swiss
government had not received an invitation to Iran's November
30 nuclear conference. Asked by poloff what position the GOS
would take, were it to receive an invitation, Friedrich
replied that the GOS had not addressed the question in the
hypothetical. He indicated that the GOS did not intend to
formulate a response unless and until it were invited.

3. (SBU) Post will continue to press this issue here with
appropriate Swiss interlocutors, and would appreciate any
updates the Department might have regarding the scope and
nature of the Iranian invitations to the conference.
