1. (C) Poloff delivered reftel demarche to Ayesha Borland,
Desk Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Poloff
expressed the U.S. commitment to protect human rights and
urged the GOB to take a stand against all no-action motions.
Ms. Borland responded that Belize has in the past supported a
fair share of no-action motions as the GOB did not want to
become entangled in some of the conflicts between larger
nations.
2. (C) Belize works closely with CARICOM on UNGA voting
decisions, and according to Ms. Borland, will continue to
cooperate regionally in the upcoming UNGA. For instance,
when asked about Belize,s views on Zimbabwe and Sudan, Ms.
Borland stated that the GOB would likely consult with CARICOM
for a regional response. She also referred to the CARICOM
statement issued July 2008 condemning the democratic and
electoral processes in Zimbabwe.
