1. (C) Ambassador delivered reftel demarche on January 9 to
Pengiran Dato Osman Patra, Permanent Secretary at the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The Ambassador
emphasized the importance that would be attached to the
actions of Muslim countries such as Brunei when Kosovo
follows through with a declaration of independence. He
highlighted that a donors conference would probably be held
at some point and encouraged the Government of Brunei (GoB)
to attend.
2. (C) Dato Osman welcomed the briefing on Kosovo and
responded that the GoB would assess the situation and come up
with a position. He also acknowledged the likelihood of a
donors conference but gave no response about possible GoB
participation.
